MOPS APP
OVERVIEW
THE ASK
Our class assignment was to come up with a solution related to the COVID-19 pandemic. I worked with 3 other classmates on this project. I redesigned the screens after the class had ended.
OVERVIEW
We decided to focus on parents who are working from home because of the pandemic and have younger school aged children (5 -12). We designed an educational app for parents and children to use together.
THE FOCUS
We didn’t have time to develop an entire app in ten weeks, so we focused one main feature.
STRATEGY
We started by interviewing 12 stakeholders, created an affinity map, came up with some How Might We statements, conducted a brainstorming and brain writing exercise, followed by storyboarding, designed some screens and ended with our business model.
Our Approach
DISCOVER - RESEARCH [DIVERGING]
INTERVIEW INFORMATION
We conducted 12 interviews
AFFINITY MAP
DEFINE - SYNTHESIZE [CONVERGing]
INSIGHT
Under the new COVID-19 stay at home orders, parents are overwhelmed with the responsibilities of parenting, educating all whilst working under one roof, yet they truly are enjoying the extra time with their children!
INITIAL HYPOTHESIS
Parents need help managing their time.
REFINED HYPOTHESIS
Parents need help managing their time so they can enjoy the moments they have with their kids.
REDEFINING THE PROBLEM
Parents finds their kids disruptive while working at home, but surprisingly they cherish the extra time they are spending with them.
HOW MIGHT WE?
HMW allow working adults to still have the feeling of normal adult interactions while working at home with children
HMW create a conducive environment where parents can work and still enjoy spending time with their children
HMW allow parents to focus on work and stick to a schedule while still being able to complete parental duties
HMW engage children for longer periods of time to allow parents to focus on their work
HMW keep remote work expectations clear, and prevent folks from spending endless hours on their job
HMW minimize disruptions to remote work when there is no physical separation between work and home and school?
HONING IN
How Might We…. allow parents to fulfill their responsibilities as parents & employees whilst still allowing them to enjoy their time with their kids.

DELIVER - PROTOTYPES [CONVERGING]
EARLY TESTING
WHAT I DID
From doing all of the research above I sketched some paper prototypes.
WHAT I LEARNED
Doing this was a great way to get feedback very quickly and I feel like it put less pressure on the user and get really honest feedback since it’s a sketch.
TOOLS USED
Pen and paper
TAKING THE EARLY DESIGN INTO THE DIGITAL SPACE
WHAT I DID
Working on the paper prototype gave me the foundation to start working on digital wireframes, which demonstrated the elements on each screen.
WHAT I LEARNED
Like the paper prototype, it is easy to make changes and get really honest feedback from users.
TOOLS USED
Adobe Illustrator
TAKING THE EARLY DESIGN INTO THE DIGITAL SPACE
WHAT I DID
Once I got feedback on my low fidelity wireframes it was time to evolve it into a more finished product.
WHAT I LEARNED
By having a prototype that looked more finished, I was able to get a better sense of how users would interact with the product in real life. Also it was beneficial to test out specific UI components.
