YELP USABILITY TEST RESULTS
Summary

We as a team conducted a usability test of the current Yelp desktop site (www.yelp.com) with nine participants over a two week timeframe. Yelp is a popular online business directory for discovering local businesses and users can also leave reviews. The participants selected for the study were those who are regularly into eating out or getting takeout/delivery. We did the study remotely due to the current COVID-19 pandemic over the Zoom app. There was always one moderator and one note taker for each call. We used the “Think Aloud” method, which involved asking participants to think out loud as they are performing a task. We asked them to say whatever they are looking at, thinking, doing, and feeling while going through the various tasks. No recordings were made of the sessions and notes were taken on a spreadsheet, which we used to help us analyze the data. The main purpose of conducting this usability test was to understand how participants are navigating takeout, delivery and dining out during the COVID-19 pandemic. This also includes finding restaurants, COVID-19 protocols/updates, hours of operations and making a reservation. Besides just focusing solely on the pandemic, we also wanted to test the general usability (strengths and weaknesses) of the Yelp desktop site.
